Fucking busy!!!

Just came back from Crewdate of Keble Rowing Club. a little drunk of wine. haha.
Ages past I have not updated this blog. so lazy. another reason is I was fucking busy after the term started.
Sit on the coutch in keble for couple of mins just now, recalled this year. What a year. still remember went to MBA fair in Beijing last November. Now I am here.
Tried my best to fell myself in my college, a cold November in Oxford.
Rowing/football/job/course, so many stuff need to note down.
Regatta is kindof an good experience of my life in Oxford, after all, rowing is the symble sports of Oxford.
Got a brilliant goal on freekick for JCR, the first goal of my game in England. the speed of the game is fucking fast here. I tried to get myself used to the pace, and enjoy the game as well.
I'm not sure where I will be in the next November. Still at China Life? or somwhere else?
the course is quite incentive. I feel accouting and finance are very useful for my future career.

Keep ballance between study and life!!!

Keble Welcome Dinner!!!

Just came back from the Welcome Dinner of my college-Keble. Enjoyed it very much. Today is my first time to be dressed up after arrived in Oxford. Sitting in the beautiful and historical dining hall with more than 100 freshers, thinking about the scene in Harry Porter, I was feeling really great!!! I am very happy that there’s one year living and studying experience in my life in Oxford-a city and university with more than 800 years history. I even started to complain one year is too short!!! Anyway, I enjoyed my life here very much so far.

In terms of my college, I would say I made a good choice. Although I don’t know what kind of events other college have, I am very satisfied with my college. The events, the sports, the campus, the dining hall. I hope I have more time to enjoy my college life for the rest of the academic year.

Deadly busy!!!

almost two weeks haven't wrotten anything on my blog. the only reason is I was tooooo busy.
full of events from the morning to the night everyday. college network, MBA network, peer support grogram, football, job hunting, CV revising.............

Now I realise the significance of time management.

However, the most important thing is that I felt happy with all the stuff above, although a little tired. New friends, new feeling, new knowlege, new hope.....................so many new things.

no time to write down more now. have to deal with a business game on line called "fantacy CEO", haha.

Language course ended!!!
4 teachers, 8 weeks, 7 trips, dozens of pub hanging outs, nearlly 50 friends…. I would say it’s really a fantastic experience, even though costing me more than 30 thousands RMB. Learning English is just one outcome, making friends and getting used to the society and culture are two comparably more important results. 2 months living and studying experience can definitely help me adapt to the hectic life quicker and better when term starts. After all, there’s just 12 months to go. It’s kind of waist of time spending 2 months getting used to the life here after the course begins.

First football match!!!
Last Saturday, I had my first football game after I arrived at oxford. The deepest feeling is that the speed here in the match is much faster than in China. I think it will take me some time to get accustomed to it. I played central back for nearly 75 mins. I was very careful to avoid any stupid mistake. It’s a good game. We won 6:0. A guy in the other team seemed broke his collarbone. Best luck to him!!!
Mgt Consulting!!!
Met some Chinese friends in the weekend. Went to Ashton’s house drinking with some incoming MBAs in the evening of Sunday. Got some new idea about how to fit in mgt consulting co. there’s a office of Mckinsey called “Asian House” located in Frankford aiming to train some consultants with approximately 18 months working experience in European countries before coming back to their mother countries. It’s a very good opportunity for me. I’d like to give it a try!!! I think I need more information of mgt consulting co. and how they recruite ppl.
New bike!!!
Bought a new bike from a current MBA on Monday. But it seems like a women bike. So maybe I’m going to buy another one and sell this one to other MBAs or MFEs.
Horse riding in Wales - Great plan but concled!!!
Originally planned to make use of this week going to Wales to spend a horse riding holiday. But friends think it’s too expensive, so we did not go. 280 pounds for 2 days. It sounds pricy, but I would say it’s worthy. Since it’s not a inside riding, but a horse trip. It means we will ride horse to another village in the first day, on the way there, we can enjoy the resorts and nature, after arrival, spend a night in a old inn with great history. The next day, ride back from another route. It could be a great feeling!!! Moreover, a guide will accompany us, and there will be no other ppl in our group. That’s fabulous, isn’t it? Maybe I have to wait till next year since the riding season will finish after October. It’s a big shame I would say!!!
Hectic life comes closer and closer!!!
I can smell the hectic atmosphere now. from next week, lots of events will come continuously, even overlapped, I have to learn how to manage my limited time to make everything balanced. Peer support program/ move flat/ orientation program/ seminar/ dinner…… Stuff comes!!! Excited!!!

Today is not my day!!!

The bike I borrowed from my friend was stolen today. The main reason is that I was too careless that I just switched one number of four numbers lock. So it’s very easy for the stealer to guess the key number of the lock. Ironically, the stealer left the lock on where it was and just took the bike away. It seems he’s laughing at my carelessness. I can not believe here is people stealing bike in Oxford. Now, I have to buy a new bike for my friend which will cost me much money. Bad luck!!!!!!!!!

Because the bike got lost, I did not go to the football training today. I don’t like changing plan which always make me upset. So I felt really bad after I came back from the trip.

However, I met a friend from Spain this evening which helped me relieve much from bad mood. We had dinner together in a see food restaurant: Loch Hyne. The mussle and fish are really yummy.

Last trip in Language Course

Today is the last trip in language course. We went to three sightseeings: wedworth roman villa; bourton on the water and upton house and gardens.

Wedworth Roman Villa was built on 4 AD by roman people. Mosaic which is still very popular in designs now was found there. Interestingly, there are several bath rooms which have advanced heat and water system in the villa. It is said people who lived there at that time spent much time in the bath rooms, not only for bath, but also for chatting and resting.

After leaving wedworth roman villa, we went to Bourton on the water which is a lovely village. There’s a stream(little river) and some bridges in the village that makes the small town more vivid. We come across a free market there selling second hand books and videos. I bought a CD and two children books for my boy. Haha. Teach him studying english from the beginning.

Our last stop is Upton House and Gardens which originally belongs to a big family. On the 19th Century, it was bought by the family who set up shell company. Now I know why Shell has the name: the company was originally doing shell trading business, then switched to oil industry, but the name remained.

It’s a lovely trip. Hope I can still have a trip every week when term starts.

Chinese food, Training, Hair Clip, Happer heyford, Bins and Toast, Port meadow, Study

7,Sep

Went to a Chinese restaurant named ‘sojo’with friends on Friday. The dishes there are not bad regardless of their prices. After dinner, we went to play billiards in a club. I lost the game with bad luck. haha

8,Sep

One week has past since I started football training with University Team(called BLUES here). I enjoyed it very much. ppl there are very friendly. Although most of the members of Blues have not come back from summer vacation yet, the training is organized very seriously. I did not even see a football during some physical trainings last week. But I am in favor of it since I can see my improvement from the training. Compared to the training here, the training in my University really sucked. I am not sure how it is now, but when I was there, the coach was crap; the training was not systematic at all; and there’s no even physical training during my 4-year time in the university football team. Nevertheless, what I’m worrying is if I have so much free time as now when term starts, so maybe playing for Keble is a better choice. Who knows, I’ll see what I can do.

Hair clipper is really a necessary and good device for me. But more importantly, I got a good friend to help me. After all, I am not confident enough to do it myself.

9,Sep

Went to Happer Heyford listening to a talk of the Bible with a native family. The topic is about Sabbath day which is considered as weekend now. On our way back, we jumped off the car and had a look at some traditional British houses. I had my lunch of the British traditional dish – Bins and Toast at the home of the British couple who lead me to the talk. They are really nice couple. After lunch, we went to port meadow together with Rongrong and Gongchen to feed ducks and took a walk. Some families are enjoying their holiday in a BARGE(boat). It looks very nice. When I past ‘Trout Inn’, something came into my mind. haha. Why I always like to think of the story which is over.

10,Sep

In terms of the language study, I would say learned a lot in academic writing course. For example, try to use passive pattern to avoid repetition; prefer “the” rather than “this” in writing; use google to find which expression is more commonly used; how to use ‘:’ ‘;’correctly; resort to google and British National Corpus to use phrases naturally.…..

Thai Food!!! Yammy yammy!!!

I went to Bangkok restaurant which is the most famous Thai restaurant here in Oxford with some friends from Asia countries including China/Japan/Korea and Thailand. So there're 5 languages on the table. We learned a lot from each other. For example, I learned how to say "thank you" in Thai, it is "Gao kun ma ca", and "feeling good" in Japan, it is "ti fen".

We talked a lot during the dinner from the relationship between ppl from main land China and Taiwan, Korean joke and Thai government taking over.

However, the most important part is the Thai food which is actrually delicious. we got prown roll/clean noodle/prown soup witch is said to be one of the most famous three soups in the world/see food/salad...... oooops. almost forget the Thai beers. they're great for both "Singha" and "chang"! I like them!

haha. it's really a big dinner, isn't it? although it's kind of bloody costy, I would say it's worthy.
what's next target food? I'm expecting.

St Giles Fire!!!

Today and yesterday, there's a carnival on St giles street. Primary schools in Oxford take two days off to make children enjoy the festival. Kids are definitely pretty happy with the two days holiday. I've covered most of the plays when I went to the carnival in Beijing. So I just walked around and took some pics. It seems here's more plays for little kids than the carnival in Beijing. I'd like to bring my son to some carnivals when he grows up.

and one of the funny things I noticed is there's a fortunate-telling lady from Gypsy in the carnival and she shows some pictures in which she was together with some celebrities such as Prince William and Sweety Blanny. haha.

Share some pictures here.

Weekend report: FILM,BILLIAND,TABLE FOOTBALL and UNIVERSITY CLUB!!!

We got a homework last week to make a 10 mins documentory. My team is made up by me and another three girls from Arab, India and Japan, a truly international team. After a little discussion, we decided to choose FOOD to be the topic of our film. I like it because tasting different food is one of my expectation during staying in Oxford. Last thursday, I and Amel went to AL SALAM, a Lebanen restaurant to do the film. It's an excellent experience. Other than the yammy food there, the Shisha made me a great impression. My six sence told me it is a great business opportunity to introduce shisha to China, maybe to Beijing first. So I decided to make a business plan to make shisha tap into Beijing market as my another homework of presentation. This weekend, I went to Cowley road with Ashia to take film of some India and Chinese restaurants there. We did some interviews with the chefs or waitors and finally finished our task.

Sunday afternoon, I went to summertown to play pool and table football with Paul and Zibi. It's full of fun. and it's my first time to play table football. Zibi and Paul are both very good at it.

Then, I went to the University club with Paul to watch Spanish football league match since Barcelona is Paul's hometown. Barcelona won the game. The university club is a very good place to watch live sports game where there are 3 big TV and football and crekit are most popular.

Cheers Tianjin!!! Tks Sohu!!!

My hometown's football team won a game at home today. Now it ranks No. 3 in Chinese football super league. Fortunately, I watched the whole game and witnessed the winning today through SOHU.com. I feel very grateful to the sohu website providing the live match. Hope Tianjin can win the final Championship this year!!! Cheers, tianjin. Tks, Sohu!!!

Amazing Oxford spiders!!!

I am striked by the webbing capability of the spiders here in Oxford. Some of the spiders here are much bigger then the spiders in Beijing. The picture on the left is not what the spiders here look like.

It is very commen that I invade some webs in front of the gate of my flat by accident when I get out in the morning or come back in the midnight. More suprisingly, the spiders here can make web crossing the road!!! Sometimes on my way back to my flat, I was stuck by spider webs!!! I never ever come across this when I was in China. It's amazing!!! How could they do so?

I felt a little guilty everytime when I broke spider web since I knew it's not a easy job to make the web and maybe it would cost the spider few hours. But it's very hard to avoid the webs because I can not see where are them.

Now a spider is on the wall in my room making web(maybe), I am afraid I have to talk to him politely to stop webbing in my room. Hope he agree with the idea!!!

My dear son's growing up!!!

I would say this is most lovely, cute, and innocent smile!
He was just born for 10 days when I captured this.

and now he is almost 15 months old. You can feel he's growing up.

No short! No hat! With shoes and girls!!!

It's kind of ridiculous, but it's true.
When you hang out with friends in drinking and dancing pubs here in Oxford, (by far, I am not quite sure if it is the case in London), remember, do not wear short; take off you hat; wear the shoes that can cover every area of your foots; and take some girls with you, otherwise, it is probably that you are not allowed to enter the pub!!!

Believe it or not, but it's true. I got all these from my own experience.

In terms of the reasons, I figured them out like below:

1. no short--to be polite aparently
2. no hat--show respect to others in the pub; show your whole face unter minitor camera
3. with shoes--in case the beer bottles drop down and cut your foots
4. with girls--not all pubs have this regulation. maybe for the sake of safety.

maybe there's some other weird rules I have not found.

Trip -- Waddesdon Manor

We went to Waddesdon Manor today. I consider the trip every Wednesday as a great opportunity for me to learn British history and culture by actually touching the house, the painting and talking with local ppl.

The house we covered today was built from 1874 to 1889 by a member of Rothschild family called Baron Ferdinand(the same name with the central defence of England National Football Team) for the purpose to display his outstanding collection of art treasures and for entertaining. The house was just used for weekends in the summer months. So luxurious. ha? However, compared to the gardens built for Kings in China, it's not very striking.

The Rothschild family is very famous in 19th century Europe for its immensely powerful banking dynasty. The family has FIVE ARROWS which located in London, Frankfurt, Paris, Naples and Vienna. Five Arrows set up a vast banking network which enabled Rothschild family to dominate the banking sector in Europe.

There are so many invaluable paintings, furnitures and services. Some of them made me a very deep impression.

For example, there are six paintings on the wall in a room telling people a fairy story-"Sleeping Princess". They are painted on the 30s of 20th century under the requirement of the host of this house at that time, and interestingly, the roles in the paintings are the ppl who in the family themselves.

and the fan collection is also very impressive, especially some goose feather fans. In the UK, diffrent positions ppl hold fan convey different meanings. f.g. put the fan in front of face means "follow me". put the fan on the left ear means "I hate you". haha

and most striking stuff is a light called "PORCA MISERIA" hangs in a dining room. The light was created on about 2003. It is stunning because the light was made of broken white porcelain dishes. I like the idea very much. Sometimes, ppl like broken things since it represents breaking the rules that restrict them. To memory Porca Miseria and the idea, I bought a bookmark with the picture of the light as a souvenir.

It's a nice trip. I enjoyed it very much.
Pubs again tonight, to celebrate the wonderful trip.

Pubs and Food!!!!

Covering as more pubs as possible and tasting as more foods from diffrent places as possible are also my expectations here in Oxford as well.

By now, I've already covered several pubs. some of them are:

King's Arms and The furt: these are troditional british pubs, all kinds of beers and wines are provided. ppl go there mostly for chatting indoors or outdoors; sitting or standing.

Copa and O'nniel: kind of drinking pub with more loudly music. They are the pubs you should drop beford going to dancing pubs.

The Bridge/ Mood and Cue pasa: dancing pubs with local pop music and music from different places. mostly young ppl often hang out there.

In terms of food, some I've tasted are as below:

Zizzi: Troditional Italian Pizza
Kebab: Turkey wrap
Fellefa: Arab wrap
Rassion food: Fish and Salad. treated by friends from Rassia.
Indian food: Curry Chicken. treated by Indian friends.

To be continued.....
